Fishing report 2/11/2013
Relentless wind has prevailed during & leading up to the cup weekend. The good news is the Flathead are back. Bag limits are being met & is seems they are spread throughout the Estuary. Drifting using a wriggler or white bait is working well.
The channel has a few big trevally as well as luderick if you can find them. The wind has been hard to avoid & the surf is a victim with washy side drifts the problem. However Pearl Point has been least affected & the one good report comes from Glenn Bennett who took advantage of that one good day to fish the surf. A few Salmon were taken, the biggest weight in over 7lb caught on a popper taken by Glenn’s mate Gary Madden.
Bream are in the river I’ve had reports indicating the best catches are well upstream. The lake is still open & when the weather settles good fishing can be had at the Mahogany’s , Siberia & in front of the channel seems to be holding good size Bream.
The Hobie World Championship was won by Richard Somerton from Victoria & the National title went to Daryl Head from NSW.
The Bemm River Community Centre & Angling Club did a sausage sizzle both days & watching the weigh in proved just how good these Anglers are. Many bags were in the high 2kg’s with the best bag of 3 Bream being over 3kg’s. When you consider that the Anglers were confronted with very strong winds bordering on being too rough for the Hobies. However most Anglers weighed in bags of quality fish. Comments from competitors indicated how important the Power Pole is in these extreme conditions.
