March 2015

Posted by brac on March 25, 2015

Our three day Easter fishing competition is on again.

There are Bream sections for ladies, men, girls and boys 12 years and under, as well as a section for any other species in the Lake including Flathead. We also have a new SURF section for adults and children which includes any type of fish. Entrants can weigh in 1 Bream a day as well as 1 other species a day. Five $20.00 encouragement awards for children will be presented.

Weigh in times will be from 12 noon until 1 pm and 5pm - 6pm Friday and Saturday, and Sunday 12 noon until 12.30m on the hotel verandah.

All members and children are free, with a $5.00 fee for visiting competitors.

Entry forms for visitors can be obtained from Bemm River Bait and Tackle prior to competing, and should be presented when weighing in fish.

Have a great Easter and keep safe.

The Lake remains closed, and has risen about three feet since closing.

Good catches of Bream are coming in, with the shallows producing good quality fish. Casting close into the bank has been a good option.

The channel has Trevally and Taylor scattered about. Trawling a Laser or any flashing type lure will attract the Taylor, and the Trevally can be caught on a Wriggler or unweighted Prawn.

The Prawn are still small, but have been great bait, dead or alive. Live Prawn under a float have produced Estuary Perch, and slack line fishing the snags up the River can be really exciting.

You never know what will come along. I saw a few large Bream and Estuary Perch pulled out of the snags in the river.

The Surf has settled down after the huge winds a few weeks ago, and will be worthwhile. I have had good success using a 50 Gm Laser lure for Salmon.

The Easterly winds are a big factor, and makes Pearl Point the best beach during these times.

I have found the morning period to be the best, and I fish my way along the Beach until I get a strike, and usually I can get two or three fish on this mark.

Our Easter comp will be held again this year starting Good Friday Sat and Sun. Lake and Surf sections for Bream and other Species, as well as five special encouragement awards for juniors.

Free entry for all club members and children twelve and under. A $5.00 entry fee for all adult non-members. Entry forms can be obtained at Bemm River Bait and Tackle prior to the days fishing.

A huge thanks to our sponsors for all your support.

Don Cunningham.
