Fishing Report. The Lake remains closed, with a slow rise around the edges of the Lake has producing Bream and the odd Flathead. The River mouth has been rewarding towards evening.
There are Bream in patches in the channel, and some of them are still spawning.
Live Prawn have been hard to find with the high water levels. We have no idea how many Prawn there are, it has been a very unusual season so far.
Fresh Prawn have been popular as a bait, and will be the most sought after. There seems to be a variety of sizes in the Prawn we have seen so far.
There have been good reports from the Surf, with Pearl Point producing quality Salmon on Pillchards and Poppers.
BEMM RIVER ANGLING CLUB FISHING REPORT 3/1/17
The Bemm River Angling Club hosted FISHCARE on Friday the 30th of December.
A dedicated group of fish care and fisheries officers were very pleased , as about thirty children took part in the lessons on all aspects to do with angling.
Members of the Angling Club worked together to provide all children, their parents and visitors with a barbecue lunch. We were lucky to complete the barbecue just before it started to rain.
A lolly scramble and lucky draw took place for all children present.
A big thank you to Fishcare, and we look forward to next year.
Our club members took part in a secret weight fishing competition on Sat 31st of Dec, and Sun 1st of Jan. The weather cooled down, and all members had ample opportunity to target a variety of fish. The women's Bream section was won by Kathy Faff, the men's Bream section was Liam Bailey. Junior girls, Laila Mounajed , junior boys Marlon Blackford. Open Flathead section was won by Jane Bailey and junior section was won by Hunter Blackford. Any other specie was won by Val Mildenhall with a Trevally.
The family barbecue that followed was an outstanding success, and the club catered for a large number of adults and children. This was held on the foreshore.
All members had a great weekend, and the secret weight event was well supported.
Bream are spread throughout the system, with the River mouth and Chanel better areas to target. There have been some sightings of large numbers of Bream up the River, swimming close to the surface. The Flathead have been very rewarding down the Chanel taking live prawn and lures.
The new fishing platform has proved to be popular, with some quality Bream landed.
Surf fishermen have had success with quite a few Salmon being landed on lures. This is a better option as the crabs are there in numbers.
A big thank you to Dahlsens of Bairnsdale and Albert Loois for donating the winning prizes for our competition. $300.00 was raised for the Nikki Tatum Medical Appeal for treatment in Russia. Thank you everyone.Wishing you all tight lines for 2017 DON CUNNINGHAM.
Macey Scott and Harrison Postill, with three lovely Bream caught off the new platform up the River.
