Fishing report 18/12/2013
The cold, wet & windy conditions have been left behind & what a pleasant change that is.10 very mild days have improved opportunities dramatically.
The river has been consistent for catches of Bream & Perch, even though big rains bought lots of very dirty water into the lake. The entrance remains open, however there is a sand bar holding the dirty water in so not much clean sea water is getting in. our fish love these conditions & are really on the bite. Bream up to 46cm, Trevally over 50cm & a good run of Flathead looks great for the Christmas break.
The surf is starting to settle with a Salmon or 2 reported as well as a nice Gummy, a sign of better times ahead.
Angling club members can be assured that we are trying to get better outcomes for Bemm, ie; Boat ramp & pontoon. We are insisting on dredging as a priority.
The consultants & Council want to believe that you can plonk a pontoon that draws 45cm into water only 35cm on low tide. Dredging has become almost impossible to do because of the environmental concerns, it could cost more for the permit than for the dredging it’s self. The plans have been altered so as to give some protection from those savage Easterly’s. We are being listened to & council have commissioned a Marine Engineer to assess the situation & at this stage we don’t know what he has come up with.
We have seen the weed & silt around the pontoon twice before, luckily it washed away after the lake closed. A frustrating year is coming to an end& I look forward to some progress in the new year, with maybe some better outcomes which have seemed unlikely till now.
We have our Fishcare day on Friday 3rd January 2014 from 1000-1200 followed immediately by a BBQ with fun games & prizes for the juniors. On the Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th of January 2014 we will be holding a members only fishing comp.
Thursday 16th January @ 7pm we will be holding our AGM all members & new members welcome it will be held in the Community Centre 12 Roberts Rd, Bemm River.
15th & 16th February sees us hosting our annual competition against Stratford which as usual will be a lot of fun for all.
Merry Christmas & a safe & happy New Year
