February 19 fishing report
Great fishing over the weekend but anglers were struggling on Saturday with awful Easterly’s. Flat head were plentiful & just a few prawn to report on.
The Bream are still about as good as it gets with best results coming from the lake edges using fresh or frozen prawn.
The Hobie elimination finals has just been held over last weekend with about 70 anglers taking part.
We held our own event on the same weekend against Stratford Angling Club, it was pleasing to see there was plenty of room on the lake for all to fish. Both clubs weighed in some nice Bream. Stratford retained the shield with a 1.128 Bream caught by Alf Bartlett, our very own Michael Roll did us proud with a lovely 1.038 Bream. Many thanks to Deb & Ray who once again allowed us to have our final weigh in & BBQ on the hotels veranda. A presentation followed the BBQ.
Stratford hosted the raffle with the winner being our own John Austin, John won a tackle box along with an extendable landing net. John kindly donated the prize to BRAC. Many thanks to John.
As mentioned earlier strong Easterly’s have caused some difficulties at the ramp. Quite a few afternoons have been a complete wipe out so it has been important to be out early each day & watch out for the wind which can whip up by 11am.
With the Foreshore Management plan due to be released, we should understand that this is our chance to incorporate protection from these Easterly’s as a priority. Second to dredging.
There are good reasons for a jetty on the South side positioned to shield the boat ramp from these dangerous winds.
The ramp is in a bad way & the promised new works can’t come soon enough. Past Club members are encouraged to re-join with the club & help support our efforts to bring about these new projects.
The fishing platform has continued to fish well. Quite a few Flat head have been caught on it along with some good Bream, I have had reports of Bream being taken from under the jetty using plastics.
LATE MAIL: two 55cm Trevally were caught by Darren Dennys & Matt Renolds these were caught in the channel, we believe these fish became enjoyable Sashimi. Also reported in the channel was good Flat head & big Taylor.
Reports indicate a 1200mm Flat head caught by a competitor in the Hobie event, we hope to verify this catch. What a catch
Vic heard the Entrance is closed and headed down to Bemm to use the fishing platform while the water is high
