Bemm River December 2012 report Anglers have enjoyed excellent fishing with Flathead being the most prolific. I urge anglers to abide by the size & bag limit that applies to our Dusky Flathead. They are easy to catch & we have a wonderful opportunity to protect this great little resource from over fishing it. Bemm has never seen Flathead in abundance like this, and we are privileged to be having this great fishing experience. Flathead spawn over the Summer months, so this is an important part of their life cycle, releasing fish over 55cm should enable the larger fish to spawn successfully. Bream & Perch are prevailing in the river. Many small Perch have been caught & released. Larger Perch can be found by hunting around the snags. Bream are being spotted in & around the snags, anglers are getting good results by using slowly retrieved surface lures. The lake has closed, with the water rising slowly. Bait prawn are showing up. With the extra water in the lake fishing the edges will be popular. With an unweighted prawn on the drift “it doesn’t get much better than that”. The channel has come into it’s own lately with big Trevally ever present. Fellow member Stan Barker & myself have had several outings with some exciting fishing. Stan’s biggest was over 3lb, so it’s important to have the drag set lightly. We look forward to Christmas like never before, just to see how things turn out. Will the prawn get bigger? Can the Flathead keep on keeping on? How many Trevally are there still to be caught? Fish care are coming to Bemm on the 4th of January 2013, 10am-12 midday this is a wonderful learning experience for the kids. The Angling club is providing a BBQ at Luderick Point.
